“This reminds me of…” Tomb Raider (2018) – Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Apart from the obvious similarities between the adventures of Indiana Jones and Lara Croft in the general sense, there is a scene in the 2018 iteration of the Tomb Raider movie that was directly lifted from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

For the aforementioned scene to exist, both movies need to have a father son/daughter relationship set up along with the father’s diary containing valuable information of ancient mystery. When all of that is in place, the father must disappear while attempting to put as much of a distance between himself and his precious research as possible. This is when we get to the scene where the son/daughter finally tracks them down – with the help of the diary, no less. I wish the father-daughter conflict in Tomb Raider was nearly as effective as the father-son conflict in Indiana Jones, but unfortunately this Tomb Raider film became yet another video game adaptation that misses the mark. The scene is nevertheless an unmistakable homage to Indy’s father (Sean Connery) telling him off for bringing his diary back to him – and therefore risking it getting into the hands of the two films’ respective bad guys. See the scene comparison below:
